Report: Pitbull-McKee grand prix final set for July 30
One of the most anticipated fights of 2021 has a date.
Patricio "Pitbull" Freire will defend his Bellator featherweight title against AJ McKee in the grand prix final on July 30, sources told MMA Fighting's Guilherme Cruz and Damon Martin.
Freire submitted Emmanuel Sanchez in April and McKee tapped out Darrion Caldwell last November to advance to the final.
In the opening two rounds of the tournament, Freire picked up wins over Juan Archuleta and Pedro Carvalho, while McKee defeated Georgi Karakhanyan and Derek Campos.
Freire, who also holds the Bellator lightweight title, is riding a seven-fight winning streak and hasn't fallen short since 2016. The 33-year-old is one of the most accomplished fighters in Bellator history.
McKee, 26, holds a 17-0 record and has competed under the Bellator banner for his entire professional career.
Bellator hasn't announced a location for the July 30 event.
