What's next for UFC 255 winners?

Another UFC event is in the books.

Two flyweight champions retained their titles, a veteran welterweight picked up another win, and a former title challenger assured she's still a contender.

Here's what should come next for the notable winners from Saturday's UFC 255.

Deiveson Figueiredo

Defeated: Alex Perez by first-round submission
Should fight: Brandon Moreno

With Cody Garbrandt still recovering from both an injury and COVID-19, this was the obvious fight to make.

Figueiredo called out Moreno after his first title defense against Perez. Moreno, who finished Brandon Royval on the preliminary card, predictably expressed interest in a title shot.

The UFC apparently heard the two flyweights loud and clear, as they're now expected to face off at UFC 256 on Dec. 12.

Moreno, the No. 1-ranked contender, extended his winning streak to three by stopping Royval with a first-round TKO. He's done more than enough to earn a shot at UFC gold.

Valentina Shevchenko

Defeated: Jennifer Maia by unanimous decision
Should fight: Jessica Andrade

Shevchenko's mission to clean out the women's flyweight division continued Saturday night. There are few challenges left for "Bullet" in the weight class, but her biggest test still awaits.

Enter Andrade.

The former strawweight champion had a successful flyweight debut in October when she took out Katlyn Chookagian in the first round. That propelled Andrade into the No. 1 spot and a prime position to challenge Shevchenko for the belt.

Andrade's power and aggression could present a threat to Shevchenko, who's gone virtually untouched throughout her 125-pound stint. Of all the flyweights yet to face the champ, Andrade likely has the best chance of pulling off the upset. Let's see her try.

Tim Means

Defeated: Mike Perry by unanimous decision
Should fight: Max Griffin

After beating Perry in a back-and-forth war, Means - who's 3-1 in his past four outings - almost deserves a ranked opponent.

But the veteran should fight once more before receiving that step up, and Griffin would be a great opponent.

Griffin, who's coming off a Nov. 7 win over Ramiz Brahimaj, is just as scrappy as Means, so a meeting between the two would be guaranteed to produce fireworks.

The winner could move further up the welterweight ladder and look to become a legitimate contender in the crowded weight class.

Katlyn Chookagian

Defeated: Cynthia Calvillo by unanimous decision
Should fight: Lauren Murphy

With Andrade deserving a title shot against Shevchenko, the next two highest-ranked flyweights coming off wins are Chookagian and Murphy. It only makes sense for them to square off.

Chookagian reminded fans that she's still one of the best flyweights in the UFC with a lopsided win over Calvillo, who was viewed as a future title challenger.

However, after getting destroyed by Shevchenko and Andrade earlier in 2020, "Blonde Fighter" is still a couple of wins away from challenging for the belt again. This fight would provide Chookagian an opportunity to prove she's deserving of another title shot, or allow Murphy - who's riding a four-fight winning streak - to step into the spotlight herself.

Paul Craig

Defeated: Mauricio Rua by second-round TKO
Should fight: Magomed Ankalaev

Craig was victorious in his rematch with "Shogun," so why not book him in another one?

Ankalaev and Craig met in early 2018, with the latter pulling off a spectacular, come-from-behind submission as a 5-1 underdog. That's still Ankalaev's only professional loss, and this would be a good time for the rising contender to try to avenge that outcome.

The No. 11-ranked contender has won five straight fights since his UFC debut loss. Craig has also only gotten better since that fight, rattling off wins over the likes of Kennedy Nzechukwu and Vinicius Moreira en route to becoming the UFC's 15th-ranked light heavyweight.

Craig would likely be the underdog again, but if he were to pull off a second win over Ankalaev, there would be no doubt he's ready for a big step up. And if Ankalaev beats Craig, he can finally move on from the stunning defeat and start to take on the division's elite.
