White: UFC working on Zhang-Namajunas title fight

The UFC is working on booking a strawweight title fight between champion Zhang Weili and Rose Namajunas, president Dana White said Saturday night.

White did not reveal whether the fight has already been penciled in for a specific date.

Zhang is coming off her first successful title defense, a "Fight of the Year" candidate against former champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk. The Chinese athlete won the belt last summer by finishing Jessica Andrade early in the first round at UFC Shenzhen.

Namajunas, a former 115-pound titleholder, is coming off a split-decision win over Andrade at UFC 251 in July. "Thug" lost the title to Andrade in May 2019 via second-round knockout.

Namajunas underwent nose surgery after the rematch against Andrade.
