Report: Cerrone, Price verbally agree to Sept. 19 fight

A former title challenger and fan favorite is set to make his third Octagon appearance this year.

Donald Cerrone and Niko Price have verbally agreed to fight on Sept. 19, sources told ESPN's Brett Okamoto.

Cerrone is coming off a unanimous decision loss to former lightweight champion Anthony Pettis at UFC 249 in May. "Cowboy" has dropped four straight bouts, including stoppages against Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Tony Ferguson. His last victory came against Al Iaquinta at UFC Ottawa in May 2019.

Price has alternated wins and losses over his past six outings. He'll look to continue that pattern against Cerrone, as "The Hybrid" is coming off a TKO loss to Vicente Luque at UFC 249. Price's most notable wins include knockouts of James Vick, Tim Means, and Randy Brown.

UFC 253, with Israel Adesanya versus Paulo Costa as the headliner, is currently scheduled for Sept. 19. However, the pay-per-view event reportedly may be moved to Sept. 26, which would allow a Fight Night card - with a clash between Colby Covington and Tyron Woodley as the potential main event - to happen on that date instead.

A location for the Sept. 19 card hasn't been determined yet.
