Adesanya, Masvidal to be featured on EA UFC 4 cover

UFC

UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and welterweight contender Jorge Masvidal will grace the cover of EA Sports UFC 4, the MMA promotion announced Saturday.

The latest instalment in the video game series will be released worldwide on Aug. 14.

"I am the face of the new wave of UFC fighters, so it feels right to represent the sport on this new generation UFC game," Adesanya said, according to a press release. "I look forward to my fans playing as me as much as I have enjoyed playing as myself."

Fans who preorder the game will receive world heavyweight boxing champions Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua as playable characters.

"I have a lot of respect for UFC fighters, but I'm the greatest fighter in the world," Fury said. "It's going to be exciting to watch players use my boxing skills to outshine the most talented MMA fighters in UFC 4."

Previous editions of the EA Sports UFC franchise featured Jon Jones, Alexander Gustafsson, Conor McGregor, and Ronda Rousey as cover athletes.

Adesanya won the 185-pound title last October with a second-round knockout of Robert Whittaker. He defended it for the first time earlier this year against Yoel Romero and is expected to face Paulo Costa later in 2020.

Masvidal became one of the most popular fighters on the roster by winning three straight bouts in 2019, including a five-second knockout of Ben Askren. "Gamebred" is scheduled to meet Kamaru Usman for the 170-pound title in the UFC 251 main event Saturday night in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
