Blachowicz KOs Anderson at UFC Rio Rancho in possible title eliminator
Jan Blachowicz knocked out Corey Anderson 3:08 into the first round of a potential light heavyweight title eliminator Saturday at UFC Rio Rancho.
Blachowicz and Anderson were thought to be candidates to get the next shot at Jon Jones along with Dominick Reyes, who fell to the champion at UFC 247 in a controversial decision.
Blachowicz delivered the knockout with a right hand while Jones was watching from the stands. He called for a championship shot after picking up his third consecutive victory.
"The whole world, they was wrong about me," he said in the Octagon, according to Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com. "I proved that I'm one of the best in the world ... and I proved that I'm the next contender for the title shot."
Jones seemed welcoming of the idea, saying on the post-fight show he could "totally see the UFC matching us up," according to Ariel Helwani of ESPN.
Blachowicz avenged his 2015 loss to Anderson with the result and earned a Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts.
