Daniel Cormier wants his trilogy bout with UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic to happen by the summer. Otherwise, he might just retire from mixed martial arts.

"You can't wait forever. ... Either we're gonna do it, or we're not gonna do it," Cormier said Monday on "Ariel Helwani's MMA Show."

UFC president Dana White has said he plans to book a third Miocic-Cormier bout after the fighters split their first two matchups. But a Miocic eye injury has caused a delay.

Additionally, Miocic's manager said last week that the champ would prefer to face someone he hasn't beaten before in his first title defense.

Cormier, who defeated Miocic in July 2018 to win the heavyweight title but lost a rematch last August, sent a message to his former foe on Saturday night, begging him to agree to the trilogy.

"Do the right thing and give me my rematch," Cormier said.

The former two-division champion - who's previously indicated that he will retire after a third Miocic fight, win or lose - said Monday that his willingness to step away is based on his success outside of MMA.

"I've got my 'Detail' show, I've got my UFC commentating career, I've got my businesses, my wrestling program, my barbershops, my restaurants," Cormier said. "I've got some other TV things in the works. ... I've got a lot of things that can really sustain me for the rest of my life."
