UFC president Dana White still doesn't think Nick Diaz has any real interest in coming back to mixed martial arts.
"I said it before and I'll say it again: I don't think Nick Diaz wants to fight," White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto. "I don't think Nick has that love and that passion for fighting. I think it's sort of a love-hate relationship for him. All the things that Nick has and has done is because of fighting, but I don't think he loves to do it."
Jorge Masvidal's win over Diaz's younger brother, Nate, at UFC 244 in November sparked some talk about a potential return for Nick, who's opted not to fight since January 2015.
Nick Diaz and Masvidal have both expressed interest in facing each other, but there are no signs that a bout will actually come to fruition.
For his part, White said he has no opinion on whether Diaz - an ex-welterweight title challenger - should return to the sport.
"That's up to Nick," White said. "Nick knows whether he wants to fight or not."
White added: "There's guys that I think ... should retire, because I don't want to see them get hurt, or maybe I feel that they can't compete at this level anymore. And then there's guys that, they know whether they want to fight or not. They have to make that decision on their own."
Diaz, who faced Georges St-Pierre for the UFC's 170-pound title in 2013, last competed against ex-middleweight champ Anderson Silva. Diaz initially lost the fight, but it was overturned to a no-contest after Silva failed multiple drug tests for steroids.
Prior to that meeting with Silva, Diaz had lost two bouts in a row.
"This isn't baseball or basketball, or one of those sports where you can go out and just half-ass it," White said. "You gotta be 100% in. ... If you're not in the right mindset, this is not the place for you."
