Jessica Eye says she got her period during UFC 245 fight week, and that's why she missed weight ahead of her win over Viviane Araujo on Saturday.

The women's flyweight contender, who missed weight by five pounds Friday morning, said she knew her period was expected this week, as did her team.

"It was one of those things that was really miscalculated," Eye said in her postfight scrum.

"At one point, my body would not let go of water," she added. "It was literally like, we were sitting there and I was just getting hot."

Eye apologized to her opponent and fans for the blunder, saying she's confident it won't be a "continuous problem."

"I'm ashamed of myself," she said.

"I pushed it as hard as I could," the 33-year-old continued. "I talked to Viviane, we talked to her camp, and we said, 'Look, I will sweat everything I have out, I will do everything I can. I'll be as tired as I can going to that scale if it makes you feel better, but I am really trying, and I don't want you to feel like I'm not.' It's not something I'm proud of. It was extremely embarrassing."

The veteran also said she doesn't plan to return to the bantamweight division following this win.

Eye earned a unanimous-decision victory on the preliminary card, handing Araujo her first Octagon loss. Eye returned to the win column after an unsuccessful title fight against champion Valentina Shevchenko in June.
