Nick Diaz arrested for domestic battery in Vegas
Nick Diaz was charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation and misdemeanor domestic battery for an alleged domestic violence incident Thursday evening, MMAjunkie's Simon Samano and Steven Marrocco reports.
A man in police custody was identified as Nickolas R. Diaz, and a person within the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that the 34-year-old male was indeed the UFC fighter. Diaz has been out of competition since January 2015.
Las Vegas PD officer Larry Hadfield said the alleged victim was female, with a source telling MMA junkie that the woman was transported to a local hospital and that Diaz was physically uncooperative during the arrest.
Diaz had his bail set at $18,000 and will remain in custody until after his court hearing, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. PT on Saturday.
The UFC released a statement via MMA Fighting on Friday regarding the situation.
UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete, Nick Diaz. The organization does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.
The alleged victim claims she's been in an "on-again, off-again sexual relationship" with Diaz for years, but that things took a bad turn in recent days as she says the fighter has been using cocaine, multiple sources told TMZ Sports.
One of Diaz's representatives posted to Instagram on Friday claiming that the alleged victim has been stalking the fighter for two years, calling him thousands of times and threatening to commit suicide.
