Max Holloway has his next challenger.
After Brian Ortega scored a shocking first-round knockout of Frankie Edgar in the co-main event of Saturday's UFC 222, president Dana White confirmed at the postfight presser that the undefeated featherweight was next in line to challenge Holloway for the divisional crown.
Holloway is currently recovering from an ankle injury that scrapped a title defense against Edgar that would have headlined the bill in Las Vegas, with White stating he'd put the wheels in motion to book the champ opposite Ortega as soon as Holloway obtains medical clearance.
Moments after the fight, the reigning champ took to Twitter to call for a bout with Ortega in July at UFC 226. Ortega seconded the motion during Saturday's presser.
Holloway last defended the featherweight crown in December at UFC 218, where he stopped Jose Aldo in a rematch by third-round TKO.
