Sabina Mazo will soon be fighting for a crown befitting her moniker.
The 20-year-old "Colombian Queen" is set to face Silvana Juarez for LFA's vacant women's flyweight title on March 9 at Houston's Arena Theater:
Mazo sports a somewhat modest record of 4-0, but made quite the splash with a pair of first-round head-kick KOs of Jamie Thorton and Linsey Williams that went viral in 2017.
Juarez has gotten her hand raised in all but one of seven pro fights, her only loss coming to current UFC strawweight Poliana Botelho in September 2015. She most recently dispatched Maria Vega by first-round TKO last March for her fifth stoppage victory.
In the bill's catchweight co-headliner, Nick Newell will end a layoff dating back to October 2015 opposite Sonny Luque. The 31-year-old Newell - a congenital amputee - once challenged Justin Gaethje for the WSOF lightweight crown and compiled a 4-1 promotional record before going on hiatus to tend to lingering injuries and get hitched. He inked a deal with LFA in September, and now looks to extend his win streak to three opposite Luque - who sports a pro record of 8-6.
