Report: Straus in hospital following near-fatal motorcycle accident
Former Bellator featherweight champion Daniel Straus is currently recovering in a Florida hospital following his involvement in a near-fatal motorcycle accident on Sunday, his manager, Matt Aptaker, told Bleacher Report's Jeremy Botter on Tuesday night.
According to Aptaker, the fighter is alert, able to speak and fully move his arms and legs, although the exact nature and severity of his injuries have not yet been confirmed. Straus cannot remember the accident, and the only known detail remains the location of his retrieval by emergency responders, Botter reports.
The former champ has since released a statement regarding the accident:
On early Sunday morning, I was involved in a motorcycle accident. I’m currently recovering and will hopefully be returning to the Bellator cage sometime soon. I appreciate all the well wishes and ask that people respect my family’s privacy during this difficult time.
The American Top Team man last took the cage in October at Bellator 184, where he lost a back-and-forth, grappling-heavy affair to Emmanuel Sanchez by third-round submission.
