Rockhold training in Florida for Branch bout, but still calls AKA home
American Kickboxing Academy's same old song drones on.
Former UFC middleweight champion and longtime AKA member Luke Rockhold took to Instagram on Thursday to reveal he'd be spending camp for his upcoming date with David Branch in Florida due to injuries sustained by his oft-banged up training partners at the San Jose-based guild.
While he'll prepare for the tilt with former Blackzilians and current Combat Club headman Henri Hooft, the 32-year-old maintained AKA "will always be my home."
The injury bug has long plagued AKA's biggest names, from Daniel Cormier to Cain Velasquez to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Rockhold has helped write the book on the team himself, as a knee injury has kept him on the shelf since June of last year and cost him a November date with Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza.
The former champ last fought at UFC 199, where he was dethroned by Michael Bisping via first-round KO. He meets Branch in the main event of UFC Fight Night 116 in Pittsburgh on Sept. 16.
