McCall granted retroactive TUE exemption, cleared of USADA violation

UFC flyweight Ian McCall can breathe a sigh of relief after the United States Anti-Doping Agency granted him a retroactive therapeutic use exemption (TUE) for an IV he received in February.

The USADA announced the news Friday.

With the exemption, McCall avoids punishment for the infusion of a saline solution he received after being hospitalized Feb. 10, shortly before he was scheduled to fight Jarred Brooks at UFC 208. McCall was subsequently removed from the card.

The use of IVs exceeding 50 mL per six-hour period are forbidden year round under USADA guidelines, but McCall was granted a TUE after the agency determined McCall's infusion was "consistent with the standard of care."

McCall has not competed since January 2015 due to a litany of misfortunes.
