"Super" Sage Northcutt is going to be out of action for a little longer, as his tonsils will need to be removed, according to his father Mark.
The 21-year-old fighter has not competed since losing by second-round submission to Mickey Gall last December, but he was planning to fight in May according to Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting.
Northcutt has been dealing with strep throat since his second fight in the UFC, and the condition worsened to the point that he will require tonsil-removal surgery next week.
"His tonsils were damaged from the first (strep throat illness) and had little pits or holes in them that kept harboring bacteria," Mark Northcutt told Helwani.
Mark added that Sage was aiming to land on UFC 211 in the Northcutts' home state of Texas, a date that is out of the question now, as his son will need at least two months to return to his regular diet and training regimen.
