The illness that removed Matt Mitrione from Bellator 172 was confirmed to be kidney stones on Saturday's main card broadcast.
Mitrione was hospitalized earlier in the day and removed from the evening's main event in San Jose, in which he was booked to face heavyweight legend Fedor Emelianenko.
The bout would have beenEmelianenko's first fight in the United States in over five years. Though several fighters volunteered to take the bout at the last second (including Chael Sonnen), Bellator officials were unable to salvage the main event and are instead aiming to re-book Emelianenko and Mitrione for a future date.
