UFC 208 breaks Barclays Center sports record with $2.3M live gate
What UFC 208 lacked in fireworks, it made up for in box-office receipts.
According to MMAjunkie, Saturday's event drew a live gate of $2,275,105, the highest total for a sports event in the brief history of Brooklyn's Barclays Center. The promotion has fattened its pockets in both its trips to the Big Apple, with November's UFC 205 shattering Madison Square Garden's live gate record with a take of $17.7 million.
The event didn't live up to its predecessor or its haul, as both the co-main and main event garnered unwelcome scrutiny due to a pair of unpunished fouls and some questionable scorecards, respectively. All but one of the card's 10 bouts ended in decisions, prompting UFC president Dana White to anoint his plane ride home the highlight of the night.
