Fabricio Werdum handed Travis Browne far more than a loss in their rematch at UFC 203 on Saturday.
Browne suffered a broken finger during the bout and will require surgery, according to FOX Sports' Damon Martin. "Hapa" sustained the injury in the first round of the chaotic fight when he raised his hand to block one of Werdum's flurries. Browne immediately motioned to the referee for a stoppage, and was granted a timeout, which the UFC isn't supposed to allow, to quickly tend to the broken finger.
The 34 year-old went the rest of the fight with the bone protruding through his skin. His resilience would go in vain, however, as he was dominated from start to finish, dropping his second decision to Werdum.
How long Browne will remain on the shelf has yet to be determined. He's lost three of his last four fights.
