After a tumultuous month, Dana White thinks Jon Jones could finally catch a break.
In an interview with Jim Rome on Tuesday, Dana White revealed Jon Jones may not have taken estrogen blockers, as was alleged after he was flagged by USADA days before UFC 200.
"I don't even know if this is public. I didn't know if I can talk about it," White said, according to MMA Fighting's Luke Thomas. "Normally, I talk about anything, but when it comes to medical stuff, you can't do it. It's looking like Jon Jones did not take the drug everybody thought he took. It looks like it's something else," White said.
Jones tested positive in July for substances typically used when coming off a cycle of steroid use, and could receive up to a two-year suspension. White followed up on the news to pointedly add the UFC superstar was not without fault in his conduct.
"He didn't get a bum rap. He definitely didn't get a bum rap, but the substance that he was on, it was a pill that you take when you're coming off of steroids. But this thing is apparently in other things. Jon took something else. Where he doesn't come off clean is you have to tell USADA everything that you put in your body leading up to the fight and he did not."
White's cautious optimism comes after Jones posted an Instagram video, in which he said he'd received some good news and expects to return to the octagon soon.
If "Bones" is indeed to return to active competition, he'll have to be cleared of any wrongdoing by both USADA and the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
"We'll see how this thing plays out," White said.
