Toronto FC striker Jozy Altidore could not overcome a quadriceps injury in time for Wednesday's Eastern Conference semifinal against New York City FC.

Altidore, 29, missed TFC's 5-1 extra-time win over D.C. United on Saturday. Teammate Omar Gonzalez was also ruled out of that contest with a hamstring issue but made the bench for the semifinal at Citi Field.

Alejandro Pozuelo remains up top in a false-nine role, with Tsubasa Endoh and Nicolas Benezet on the flanks.

Altidore sustained the injury in Toronto's penultimate game of the regular season - a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew - and was forced out of the United States' Nations League matches.
