Report: United product Rossi not keen on MLS switch, wants European return

Giuseppe Rossi won't be re-signing with Manchester United, and it doesn't seem like he'll be testing the waters in Major League Soccer anytime soon.

New Jersey-born Rossi had been linked with a move to hometown franchise the New York Red Bulls earlier this season, with Rossi telling ProSoccerUSA's Glenn Crooks in November: "Coming home and playing home would be something amazing ... because this area in New Jersey is in my blood. I would love to be a part of the soccer culture that is around this area ... obviously, it takes two to tango, am I right? I would love to sit down to talk."

Though those quotes from merely two months ago suggest Rossi would be keen on a switch to the east coast, ESPN's Mark Ogden reports he is no longer currently interested in a move to MLS. The 31-year-old reportedly believes he has more to offer in a major European league despite playing just 10 times for Genoa last term and scoring once.

The injury-ravaged Italian striker is currently training at his former club under old Red Devils teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Rossi, as a free agent, can join any club at any time and is not bound by the transfer window. According to Solskjaer, he has been impressing legendary former United boss Sir Alex Ferguson on the Carrington pitches.

"He looks sharp, he's looking for a club so Giuseppe is probably going to stay with us for another week, unless someone takes him," Solskjaer said via the club's official website.

“He scored a fantastic goal (Saturday) in training. The gaffer (Ferguson) turned around and said 'what about that son?' It's a bit of us helping him to get fit before his next move, so if there are any takers, you should be quick!"
