Atlanta United equals largest margin of victory in MLS history

Atlanta United FC's success knows no bounds.

On Wednesday night, in front of a sold-out crowd of 45,314 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta United obliterated the New England Revolution 7-0, equaling the largest-ever margin of victory in a Major League Soccer game.

If that wasn't impressive enough, Atlanta became MLS' first expansion club to tally seven goals in one game, and was only one goal shy of the league record. The LA Galaxy demolished FC Dallas - then known as the Dallas Burn - 8-1 in 1998.

New England also set a record - albeit an embarrassing one - by becoming the first club in MLS history to register zero shots in a game.

As Josef Martinez notched a first-half hat-trick, New England was reduced to nine men. Xavier Kouassi and Antonio Milnar Delamea were shown red cards in the 16th minute and 38th minute, respectively, and things only got worse for the Revolution after Anton Walkes scored in first-half stoppage time.

Kevin Kratz, Yamil Asad, and Hector Villalba piled on the misery in the second half, the first of whom produced a beautiful free-kick.

The result extended Atlanta United's unbeaten run at home to eight games.
