The San Francisco Giants are desperately hoping for a healthy season from right-hander Matt Cain, but he's already encountered a setback this spring.
Cain had a cyst removed from his throwing arm Thursday and will be shut down for the next 10 days a result.
The veteran has been plagued with injuries for the last two seasons, and recently underwent surgery to remove bone chips and spurs from his right elbow.
San Francisco has the luxury of having starting pitching depth after acquiring Johhny Cueto and Jeff Samardzija this offseason. Chris Heston, who tossed a no-hitter last July, would be the likely candidate to assume Cain's spot in the starting rotation if injuries continue to be an issue this season.
Cain, who is the longest-tenured player on the Giants, went 2-4 with a 5.79 ERA in 11 starts for San Francisco last season.
