Jeter: Gift basket rumor 'a dumb story'
Derek Jeter is hoping to clear the air on some of the not-so-flattering rumors involving his personal life.
The closely guarded former New York Yankees shortstop delved into some of the gossip that has followed him around in recent years during a segment of "Undeniable with Joe Buck" on Thursday.
"They (the media) make up these stories and everyone just automatically ... everyone believes it," Jeter said. "I'm sure there's stories you guys have heard ... the gift basket story."
The New York Post published a story in 2011 claiming that Jeter handed out gift baskets to women as they left his apartment following one-night stands.
"On top of it, it was a gift basket of my own memorabilia," Jeter said. "So, it's a dumb story, right, and you really have to be dumber to believe it. I mean really, (the Media) comes up with this stuff and it follows you around like it's factual. I don't address (rumors), because once you address it, you have to address every single rumor that comes out, and then if one time if you don't, they automatically believe it's true. So I just choose not to address any rumors that are out there, but that's gotta be the dumbest one I've heard."
