It appears as though Don Mattingly won't be out of work for long.

The Miami Marlins are engaged in "serious talks" with the former Los Angeles Dodgers skipper about their managerial vacancy, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.

Mattingly interviewed for the position Monday, and sources say the meeting went "extremely well." Both parties are still in touch, and Heyman speculates an official announcement could be made after the World Series.

Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria quickly identified Mattingly as a front-runner for the position after determining general manager Dan Jennings wouldn't pull double duty managing the club in 2016. When Mattingly parted ways with the Dodgers on Oct. 22, the Marlins acted swiftly to declare their interest in the 54-year-old.

Mattingly compiled a 446-363 record over five years in Los Angeles, and guided the Dodgers to three consecutive National League West titles.
