Shortly after Thursday's Game 5 victory, New York Mets manager Terry Collins confirmed that Matt Harvey will start Game 1 of the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs.
Harvey's lone appearance in the NLDS came in the Mets' 13-7 win in Game 3, when the 26-year-old picked up a win in the first postseason appearance of his career. He gave up three runs - two earned - while striking out seven in five innings of work.
"I was disappointed in my last start, so getting another chance to go back out there and start us off right is everything I wanted," Harvey told Adam Rubin of ESPN.
The right-hander made just one appearance against the Cubs this season, pitching seven shutout innings in a no-decision. He'll enter Saturday's series opener on five days' rest.
Chicago will counter with Jon Lester.
"It's going to be tough for them to play at Citi Field, where it's been rocking," Harvey said.
