VIDEO: Astros' Correa beats out infield single for 1st MLB hit, RBI
Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa almost had his first major-league hit taken away from him by umpire Larry Vanover on Monday.
The organization's top prospect appeared to beat out an infield single but was initially ruled out. Astros manager A.J. Hinch requested a review and the call was overturned. Jonathan Villar scored from third base on the play, also giving Correa his first major-league RBI.
It was the first run given up by Chicago White Sox's ace Chris Sale in 22 2/3 innings.
The first-overall selection in the 2012 draft, Correa finished the game 1-for-4 with an RBI and a strikeout. He also made an exceptional play on a grounder in the eighth inning to throw out Adam Eaton.
Correa sailed through the minor leagues this year, hitting .335/.407/.600 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles, and 27 stolen bases in 53 games between Double and Triple-A.
