Less than 24 hours ago, Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson was named the American League's Player of the Week following a magical stretch at the plate in which he clobbered six homers in a six-game span.

On Tuesday, the 29-year-old started making his case for this week's award, albeit with his defensive chops rather than his mighty bat this time around.

In the fourth inning at Nationals Park, Donaldson made a spectacular play on a high chopper from Wilson Ramos, corralling the ball barehanded and firing to first base just in time to retire the 27-year-old catcher.

Donaldson, by the way, ranks sixth among AL third baseman with three defensive runs saved, and entered Monday's doubleheader trailing only Bryce Harper for the MLB lead in wins above replacement
