New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira left Sunday's game against the Royals after taking a pitch off his right big toe. X-rays after the game came back negative, Sweeny Murti of Sportsradio 66 WFAN reports.
Analysis:
Teixeira expressed optimism that Monday's off day might provide him sufficient recovery time before returning to the lineup for Tuesday's series opener against the Nationals. An 0-for-2 showing prior to his departure dropped Teixeira's batting average to .248 for the season, but his 11 homers and 28 RBI rank tops on the team.
