Joe Maddon exercised the opt-out clause in his contract with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday and is seeking a big raise with a new club in 2015.
Maddon is looking for a five-year deal that will pay him around $25 million, reports MLB Network Insider Joel Sherman.
Maddon earned a total of $6 million on his previous three-year contract with the Rays and his reported new demands would make him one of the highest-paid managers in the game.
Los Angeles Angels manager Mike Scioscia is the top earner in the majors with an average salary of $5 million annually.
Maddon's accomplishments with the cash-strapped Rays include winning the 2008 American League pennant and taking the team to the postseason on three separates occasions.
