The Kansas City Royals will need luck to be on their side down the stretch as the Detroit Tigers are just two and a half games back in the American League Central division.
Catcher Salvador Perez has a few things he keeps up his sleeve that are lucky for him, at least for now. In an interview with a local TV station in Kansas City he claimed his red shower shoes are lucky (until they start losing), as well as smelling nice behind the plate.
He revealed he wears women's perfume, Victoria's Secret or Chanel to be specific. "I use perfume, all the umpires like that," he said. Where did he get the idea? Shortstop Alcides Escobar.
"Every time he goes to play, he use Victoria's Secret. So one day I said 'Alcides, let me try it' and in the first inning the umpire says 'You smell good Salvy.' I said 'Thank you.' And in that game I hit the ball and everything so I started to use it every day," Perez explained.
In his fourth season with the Royals, Perez has 15 home runs and 57 RBI through 120 games.
