The Chicago Cubs are apparently over David Price. Maybe Price will have to stop dreaming about winning it all at Wrigley Field, too.
According to USA TODAY Sports' Bob Nightengale, a Cubs executive said the team has "zero interest" in trading for the Rays ace now.
Chicago is stocked with some of the league's best prospects, and has more than enough in its pool to acquire a big name at the deadline. Third baseman Kris Bryant and shortstops Javier Baez and Addison Russell are all in the top 10 of MLB.com's Top 100.
Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer appeared on CSN's Kap and Haugh show last week and discussed trade rumors without using Price's name.
"I don't really pay attention," Hoyer said, via CSN. "There's going to be a lot of rumors of our players and our acquiring good players because of the talent we have in the minors. There are so many teams looking for offense that I think we're just kinda lumped in with a lot of different rumors."
Hoyer didn't acknowledge what Price said, about Chicago being the "coolest" city to win a championship in, as being anything out of the ordinary.
"In a lot of ways, that's why Theo [Epstein] came here. That's why I came here," Hoyer said. "Because it is. I don't think there's any question. This would be the 'coolest' city to win a championship in.
"Obviously, it'd be incredible to break the drought, but also it's Chicago. It's a fanbase that is incredible. What [Price] was saying, that's what Theo and I and other people that have come to the Cubs have said in different words many times."
