Derek Jeter's final All-Star Game appearance appears to have been of interest to those outside of baseball esoterica.
While the event was largely celebrated by the baseball community, it was unclear if the television ratings, which have been in a three-year holding pattern, would respond to the story. They did not, after all, for Mariano River's farewell midsummer classic last year.
Well, the people love The Captain, it turns out, and the All-Star Game popped its biggest rating since 2010. The broadcast averaged 11.3 million viewers, and the first half-hour of the broadcast, in particular, saw a nine percent spike in viewership.
While this is obviously a positive for the league, it speaks to the possible impact of losing the face of the game for the past two decades.
