A retired Illinois farmer is still too young to have seen the Chicago Cubs win a World Series, but he's a fitting person to help the team celebrate Wrigley Field's 100th anniversary season.
Louis Reinhart, a 100-year-old lifelong Cubs fan, was supposed to appear at the park for the home opener, but bad Chicago traffic postponed his arrival.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Reinhart said traffic was "not too bad" en route to Sunday afternoon's contest at Wrigley, where the centenarian dropped the game ball on the pitcher's mound.
“It's the first time I got down on the field like that,” said Reinhart. “I like seeing the players.”
Reinhart had his photo taken with first baseman Anthony Rizzo, and shortstop Starlin Castro - apparently Reinhart's favorite player on the current roster - signed a ball for him.
The Cubs last won the World Series in 1908.
