After striking out and grounding into a double play in his first two at-bats Monday, the final home opener of his storied career, Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter redeemed himself with a double off the wall in the fifth inning that was mere inches away from becoming a home run.
Jeter, however, was under the impression that his line drive to left field was destined to find the seats, and consequently started his home run trot out of the batter's box.
As one can plainly see in the photo below, the ball did not find the seats.
As such, Jeter was forced to abandon his trot, and feverishly rushed to second base, just narrowly beating the throw from left fielder David Lough.
