The Red Sox parted ways with veteran reliever Francisco Cordero on Saturday, releasing the 38-year-old who was not expected to accept an assignment to the minor leagues.
Though he hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2012, Cordero was impressive this spring, surrendering no runs over eight Grapefruit League appearances.
Cordero, who compiled 329 saves over 14 seasons in the majors, is expected to pursue an opportunity with another club, according to Jason Mastrodonato of MassLive.com.
