The Phillies appear to have fortified their depth behind the plate, reportedly signing free-agent catcher Wil Nieves on Tuesday evening, according to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
A 10-year veteran, Nieves has served as a backup catcher for his entire major-league career. The 36-year-old logged 71 games with the Diamondbacks in 2013, hitting .297/.320/.369 with one home run and 12 doubles. Nieves also retired 28 percent of potential base-stealers, while allowing just one passed ball over 380.2 innings behind the plate.
