The New York Yankees announced Monday that they reinstated slugger Giancarlo Stanton from the 60-day injured list.
The five-time All-Star has been sidelined with tendinitis in both elbows. He's batting fifth as the designated hitter in Monday's lineup against the Los Angeles Angels in what will be his season debut.
New York designated utility man Pablo Reyes for assignment in a corresponding roster move.
Stanton enjoyed a somewhat resurgent campaign in 2024, hitting 27 home runs with 72 RBIs in 114 games. The .773 OPS (114 OPS+) he recorded was his highest since 2021.
Stanton also authored several memorable moments throughout New York's run to the World Series. He was named ALCS MVP and homered two times in the Fall Classic against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
How the Yankees deploy their lineup around Stanton is to be determined. New York has used Ben Rice as its designated hitter for much of 2025, but he could see time at catcher to accommodate.
Rice could also form a platoon with Paul Goldschmidt at first base.
Stanton, 35, is in the 11th season of a 13-year, $325-million contract he originally signed with the Miami Marlins.
He is MLB's active home run leader with 429 for his career.
