The Colorado Rockies continue to redefine the bar for futility.

Sunday's 5-3 loss against the New York Mets dropped the Rockies to 9-50 on the season, making them the first team in baseball's modern era (1901 onward) to reach 50 losses before 10 wins.

Colorado has lost eight straight games and 13 of its last 14.

The Rockies recently set the record for the worst 50-game start in the modern era by starting the season 8-42. The club's active streak of 22 straight series losses dating back to last year is also a league record.

Colorado holds a minus-185 run differential and is on pace to finish the season 25-137, which would shatter the record for most losses in a 162-game season (121) set by the Chicago White Sox in 2024.

Those White Sox had 17 wins before they lost their 50th game.

The Rockies were within striking distance of a win after Tyler Freeman tied the game with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. However, their bats went silent the rest of the way, while the Mets added two more runs.

New York closer Edwin Díaz pitched around a baserunner in the ninth inning to record his 13th save of the season.

Second baseman Orlando Arcia, who signed with the Rockies earlier this week, hit his first home run of the year in the third inning.

Colorado travels to Miami for a three-game series beginning Monday.
