Boston Red Sox fans continue to clamor for the club to recall top prospect Roman Anthony.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow said the team continues to have ongoing discussions about the situation.

"Those are a few development opportunities that we want to make sure we lock in," Breslow told The Boston Globe's Alex Speier. "Those are things the minor-league schedule and training environment afford. Obviously, we have to balance that with our major-league needs. That’s a conversation that we’re having every single day."

Anthony is the No. 1 prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline. The 21-year-old outfielder has torn the cover off the ball at Triple-A, slashing .320/.452/.529 with eight home runs, eight doubles, two triples, 39 runs scored, and 23 RBIs in 48 games.

"He does all these things well, but that doesn’t mean there’s not a chance to try to improve," Breslow said. "It kind of sounds a bit like we're overly scrutinizing the performance, but he has really high demands of himself. … We just want to make sure that while he’s in the minor leagues and working through these things, we’re giving him the chance to do so."

The Red Sox recently recalled their No. 2 prospect, Marcelo Mayer in an effort to provide spark.

Anthony has played all three outfield spots and designated hitter this season. The Red Sox are using an outfield of Jarren Duran in left, Ceddann Rafaela in center, and Wilyer Abreu in right.

The Red Sox have had a disappointing start to the season after emerging as a popular preseason pick to contend for the World Series. Boston entered play Wednesday in fourth place in the AL East with a 27-30 record.
