Royals place starters Ragans, Lugo on IL
The Kansas City Royals will be without two of their best starting pitchers for the foreseeable future.
The Royals announced Saturday that they placed Cole Ragans and Seth Lugo on the injured list due to a groin strain and finger sprain, respectively.
In corresponding roster moves, the club recalled lefties Noah Cameron and Evan Sisk from Triple-A Omaha.
Ragans suffered the groin injury during Friday's start against the St. Louis Cardinals and was pulled after allowing four earned runs over five innings in an eventual 10-3 loss.
The 27-year-old left-hander leads MLB with a 14.2 K/9 this season but has worked to a 4.53 ERA (91 ERA+) through 45 2/3 innings.
Kansas City scratched Lugo from his scheduled start Saturday against the Cardinals because of finger inflammation.
The veteran righty has been a revelation since joining the Royals on a three-year, $45-million deal ahead of last season. The 35-year-old has worked to a 3.02 ERA and 1.09 WHIP across nine starts this campaign.
Cameron is the Royals' fifth-ranked prospect, per MLB Pipeline. The 25-year-old threw 6 1/3 scoreless innings during his MLB debut on April 30.
Sisk has made two relief appearances for Kansas City in 2025.
