Dodgers place Sasaki on IL with shoulder impingement

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed right-hander Roki Sasaki on the injured list with a shoulder impingement, the club announced Tuesday.

Reliever J.P. Feyereisen was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding roster move.

Sasaki has struggled in his first season with the Dodgers, registering a 1-1 record with a 4.72 ERA, 6.17 FIP, 6.29 K/9, and 5.77 BB/9 in 34 1/3 innings.

The 23-year-old's velocity has declined as the season has progressed, failing to clear 98 mph on the radar gun since his fourth start of the season. Sasaki didn't induce a single swinging strike and averaged a little more than 97 mph with his fastball during his last outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

"Physically, he was a little bit sore afterwards, and that’s something that we’re still kind of trying to figure out, you know, what’s normal, what’s kind of not normal," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, according to The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. "... We want to make sure that he’s in a good spot, physically and mentally."

The Dodgers signed Sasaki in the offseason after a highly publicized pursuit that included a handful of other clubs.
