Mariners place Gilbert on IL with elbow flexor strain
The Seattle Mariners placed ace Logan Gilbert on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain, the club announced Saturday.
An MRI revealed a Grade 1 strain. The Mariners will shut down the 27-year-old from throwing before re-examining him in two weeks.
"Could have been much worse," Gilbert said, per Adam Jude of The Seattle Times. "Definitely optimistic."
Gilbert left his start Friday night against the Miami Marlins with forearm tightness after throwing three perfect innings.
The All-Star right-hander was off to an excellent start to begin the 2025 campaign, posting a 2.37 ERA and 0.79 WHIP with 44 strikeouts across 30 1/3 innings pitched.
Gilbert joins rotation mate George Kirby on the injured list.
Seattle recalled lefty Tayler Saucedo and righty Troy Taylor from Triple-A Tacoma while designating reliever Casey Lawrence for assignment in the corresponding roster shuffle.
The Mariners will send Luis Castillo to the mound Saturday night as they continue their series against the Marlins.
