New York Mets infielder Nick Madrigal needs shoulder surgery and will likely miss the entire 2025 campaign, manager Carlos Mendoza said Friday, per Newsday's Tim Healey.
Madrigal fractured his left shoulder in a split-squad game against the Washington Nationals.
The Mets signed Madrigal to a one-year split contract at the end of January. The 27-year-old is a career .274 hitter over five seasons with the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs.
The Mets will likely turn to Brett Baty, Luisangel Acuña, Ronny Mauricio, Donovan Walton, and Jared Young in the search for a utility infielder to start the regular season.
