Casas wants Devers at 3B 'this year and for the next 10'
Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas defended Rafael Devers' insistence on remaining at third base moving forward.
"I think that he's the third baseman of this franchise for a long time to come, and I don't know if there's a third baseman in the league that I'd take over him," Casas told NESN's Tom Caron and Lou Merloni.
He added, "He plays hard, and he really sets the tone out there at third base. I want him at that position this year and for the next 10 as well."
Devers made waves Monday when he revealed he told the Red Sox his position was third base, and he had no interest in being a designated hitter.
The Red Sox recently signed Gold Glove third baseman Alex Bregman, leading to rumblings that the team might look at moving Devers to make room at third base. Casas doesn't support that idea.
"I think Bregman should play second," Casas said, according to Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe.
Devers has struggled defensively over the past few years at third base and was worth -9 defensive runs saved in 2024.
