Report: Turner, Cubs agree to 1-year, $6M deal

The Chicago Cubs and veteran infielder Justin Turner are finalizing a one-year, $6-million contract, a source told The Athletic's Patrick Mooney.

Turner can earn an additional $2.5 million in incentives, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.

The 40-year-old split the 2024 season between the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. Turner slashed .259/.354/.383 with 11 home runs, 24 doubles, and 55 RBIs across 139 games.

He could see playing time at first base against left-handed pitching, forming a platoon of sorts with Michael Busch. He's also capable of playing both third and second base.

The two-time All-Star is a lifetime .285 hitter with a 124 OPS+ over 16 MLB seasons with six teams.
