Report: Williams drawing extensive trade interest

At least 10 teams have contacted the Milwaukee Brewers about closer Devin Williams, a source told The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon.

The source listed the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees as two teams vying for the right-hander, along with the Kansas City Royals, Detroit Tigers, and Los Angeles Angels.

Williams could be traded during this week's winter meetings, but a deal once the free-agent market for relievers settles remains more likely, Rosenthal and Sammon report.

The Brewers declined Williams' $10.5-million club option for 2025 earlier in the offseason. He's expected to earn $7.7 million in salary arbitration, which could still be too steep for the club as it looks to shed payroll once again.

Williams pitched to a 1.25 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 22 appearances with the Brewers in 2024. However, he allowed four runs in just 1 2/3 innings during Milwaukee's disappointing NLDS loss to the New York Mets.

The 30-year-old, a two-time winner of the Trevor Hoffman Award as the National League's top reliever, has recorded a minuscule 1.83 ERA (232 ERA+) and 4/2 hits-per-nine across six excellent seasons.
