Free-agent reliever Tommy Kahnle isn't enamored with the potential of the golden at-bat rule coming to Major League Baseball.
"Not a fan," Kahnle told "Foul Territory" on Wednesday. "I get it, it'd be exciting, but I'm a traditionalist. I don't like the idea. I don't think it belongs."
The golden at-bat rule would allow a team to send any hitter in the lineup to the plate, even if it's not that player's turn to hit.
MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said in October that the league was discussing the rule.
"I think it's crazy," Kahnle added. "That's what pinch hitters are for, bench players. I can't control that, so we'll see what happens. I hope it doesn't happen."
