Report: Mets showing interest in Buehler
The New York Mets have shown interest in free-agent right-hander Walker Buehler, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Mets president of baseball operations David Stearns has been busy trying to reshape the club's starting rotation, reportedly signing right-hander Frankie Montas to a two-year, $34-million contract Sunday.
New York entered the offseason looking to replace free agents Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Jose Quintana.
The Mets are currently projected to begin the 2025 campaign with a rotation that includes Montas, Kodai Senga, David Peterson, Paul Blackburn, and Tylor Megill.
Buehler spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 30-year-old struggled in 2024 after returning from injury, posting a 1-6 record with a 5.38 ERA in 16 regular-season starts.
Buehler rebounded in the postseason, tossing scoreless starts against the Mets in the NLCS and the New York Yankees in the World Series. He also earned the save to clinch the World Series for the Dodgers in Game 5 against the Yankees.
The Dodgers didn't extend Buehler a qualifying offer, which means any club that signs him won't be required to give up draft-pick compensation.
The Atlanta Braves and Yankees have also reportedly shown interest in Buehler.
